Who is John Murphy?
John Joseph Murphy is an American former backstroke and freestyle swimmer who won the gold medal in the men's 4×100m freestyle relay at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. At the 1972 Olympics, the 19-year old also collected a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke. He swam for Indiana University under coach James Counsilman in the early and middle 1970s.
