John Stansbury was an officer in the United States Navy killed during the War of 1812.
Stansbury was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He served under Stephen Decatur as a midshipman in United States during the capture of the British ship, Macedonian. He was a Lieutenant when he was killed during the Battle of Lake Champlain.
USS Stansbury was named for him.
