Who was John S. D. Tory?
John Stewart Donald Tory was a Toronto lawyer and founder of the law firm Torys.
Born in Toronto to John Alexander Tory Sr and Abigail Georgina Buckley, J.S.D. Tory attended Upper Canada College, UTS, Harvard University, and Osgoode Hall Law School. Called to the Ontario bar, he was founder of the Torys law firm.
Married Kathreen Jean Arnold, his sons John A. Tory and James Marshall Tory later joined his firm. His grandson is John Tory, former Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario leader and member of his grandfather's firm.
Tory was also a director of A.V. Roe Canada.
A literary award at the University of Toronto was named in his honour.
