Who was John William Noell?
John William Noell was a U.S. Representative from Missouri, father of Thomas Estes Noell.
Born in Bedford County, Virginia, Noell attended the rural schools. At the age of seventeen moved to Missouri and settled near Perryville. He engaged in milling and storekeeping. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced practice in Perryville, Missouri. He served as clerk of the circuit court for Perry County 1841-1850. He served as member of the state senate 1851-1855.
Noell was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses. He was reelected as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress and served from March 4, 1859, until his death in Washington, D.C., March 14, 1863. He was interred in St. Mary's Cemetery, Perryville, Missouri.
