Who is Jon S. Jackson?

Army Lieutenant Colonel Jon S. Jackson is a military trial lawyer in the United States Army Reserve. He is currently representing 9/11 suspect Mustafa Ahmed Al-Hawsawi at the military commissions at Guantanamo Bay detention camp. During the arraignment of the 9/11 accused, Jackson accused the alleged mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed of intimidating his client. Major Jackson argued for and received a separate hearing for Mr. Al-Hawsawi.

Jackson, a former college athlete at the University of Memphis, served on active duty in the Army JAG Corps for several years as both a defense counsel and military prosecutor at military installations around the world, and is a former professor of criminal law, trial advocacy and ethics. Jackson has published many military law articles, and is guest speaker, military trial attorney and military law consultant. Jackson was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in October 2009. He previously served as the lead military counsel for Canadian child soldier Omar Khadr as well as for Majid Khan.
