Who is Jónas Kristjánsson?

Jónas Kristjánsson is an Icelandic scholar and novelist. He is a former longtime director of the Árni Magnússon Institute, from which he retired upon reaching the age limit on the position in 1994. He is best known for his works on Icelandic sagas, laying emphasis on their literary nature and working on several stylistic and syntactic problems. His novel, The Wide World, is set in Viking age North America. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
