Who was Jorge Brown?
Jorge Gibson Brown was an Argentine footballer who was one of the most important figures in the early years of Argentine football. He won 10 league titles and captained the Argentina national team between 1908 and 1913.
Jorge started playing football in the 2nd team of the English High School team. In 1896 he joined Club Palermo and in 1897 he joined Lanús.
In 1900 he returned to English High School where he was part of the team that won the 1900 league championship. In 1901 the club changed their name to Alumni Athletic Club and over the following decade the club dominated Argentine football winning 9 of the 12 championships between 1900 and their disollution in 1911.
Jorge Brown made his debut for the Argentina national team in 1902. He went on to make 23 appearances, scoring four goals. he captained the team for 18 matches between 1908 and 1913.
After the disollution of Alumni, Jorge Brown joined Quilmes where he won the 1912 league championship. He played for the club until 1914.
Between 1914 and 1927 he played in the "Liga de los sábados" where he captained Buenos Aires Cricket Club, an institution he would go on to serve as president.
