Who was Joscelin of Louvain?
Joscelin of Louvain was a nobleman of the Duchy of Brabant who married an English heiress, Agnes de Percy, one of the two co-heiresses of William II de Percy, 3rd feudal baron of Topcliffe, Yorkshire' and settled in England. He and his descendants, later created Earls of Northumberland, took the name Percy.
Joscelin was given lands at Petworth, by William d'Aubigny, 1st Earl of Arundel. William d'Aubigny had married Adeliza of Louvain, Joscelin’s half-sister, and widow of Henry I of England.
