Who was José Baptista Pinheiro de Azevedo?

Admiral José Baptista Pinheiro de Azevedo, GCL was a Portuguese political figure, reformer and revolutionary. He helped overthrow Marcelo Caetano in 1974. He served as the 105th prime minister of Portugal between 19 September 1975 and 23 June 1976. He ran for president in 1976, and lost.

He was one of two high-ranking military officers accused by Oswald LeWinter of trafficking in weapons which led to the death of Francisco de Sá Carneiro and Adelino Amaro da Costa.
