Who was Joseph W. Eaton?
Joseph W. Eaton, born Josef Wechsler, was an American sociologist and anthropologist. He was listed in Who is Who in the World for his published research and academic career in public and international affairs, social work and public health.
Eaton was born in Germany. He emigrated at age 13 after being kicked out of school. He changed his name to protect his parents who remained in Europe but they were killed by the Nazis. He studied at Cornell University and Columbia University. He was the founder of the graduate program in social work at the University of Pittsburgh.
