Who is Jukka Nevakivi?
Jukka Taneli Nevakivi, is a Finnish historian, Ph.D. 1963. Nevakivi was a journalist 1954-63 for Kaleva and Suomen Kuvalehti, between 1963 and 1979 he served within the Finnish foreign département in Budapest, Cairo and Paris. In 1980-95 he was professor in political history at Helsinki University.
He has focused on some dramatic events in the Finnish republics history. Amongst his production are Muurmannin legioona, The appeal that was never made, which is about the West allies during the Finnish Winter War, Ystävistä vihollisiksi, about Finland in British politics after the Winter War. He has also written some studies about the years after the second world war, Zdanov Suomessa, Miten Kekkonen pääsi valtaan ja Suomi suomettui. In 2000 he wrote again a book about the relationship between the West allies and Finland during the Winter War, Apu jota ei annettu.
