Who is Jyrki Niskanen?
Jyrki Niskanen is an operatic tenor from Finland. He started his musical career as an entertainment musician, playing piano, keyboard and accordion. During his early years as a young musician he accompanied almost all the well-known Finnish artists.
Niskanen studied piano at the Sibelius Academy and made his Diploma in improvisation and free accompaniment, as the first person in Academy's history, with excellent grades. Niskanen studied singing at the Sibelius Academy, in London with Vera Rózsa and in Vienna and Berlin Peter Berne. Niskanen is known for his versatile and strong voice, possessing a dramatic tone. His sonorous tenor voice is suitable for strong Wagner operas as well as for f.ex. Italian operas.
Niskanen made his professional debut in the role of Florestan in Fidelio at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 1992, and he was immediately invited to Zürich Opernhaus. . Amongst the roles he played over the next ten years are Paul in Die Tote Stadt, and Tristan in Tristan und Isolde.
He has given concert performances in Finland, Norway, Estonia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and USA. Niskanen's recorded works include the following albums:
