Who was Karence DeCosta?
Karence Terrel DeCosta, nicknamed SongBird, was a singer and beauty queen crowned St. Thomas Carnival Queen 2009 on 18 April 2009. She was born on the island of St. Kitts, but she moved to St. Thomas in 2006, and attended the Charlotte Amalie High School for three years.
DeCosta was to represent the American Virgin Islands at the 2009 Miss World pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa on 12 December 2009. She died on June 8, 2009, on the evening of her high school graduation, in a car crash in St. Thomas.
