Who was Karim bey Mehmandarov?
Karim bey Mustafa bey Mehmandarov was an Azerbaijani physician, M.D. of Medical-Surgical Academy, one of the first Azerbaijanis who have graduated from the Medico-Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg, one of the leaders of the Shusha educational society "Neshr Maarif", founder of the first Russian-Azerbaijani Shusha school for girls.
Mehmandarov graduated from Baku Gymnasium and St. Petersburg Medical-Surgical Academy, then worked in a military hospital and combated diphtheria outbreak in Poltava Guberniya. Having returned to Azerbaijan in 1883, he continued his practice.
A hospital and a street in Shusha, Azerbaijan are named after him.
