Who was Karol Popiel?
Karol Popiel was a Polish politician of Christian democracy faction and writer. Member of Centrolew and Front Morges alliances, later joined the Labor Party. Member of the Polish government in exile during World War II, minister from 1941 to 1943. After the war, in 1945, decided to return to communist Poland and joined the State National Council quasi-parliament, but refused to ally himself with communist and with increasing repressions against the oppositions, and communist infiltration of Stronnictwo Pracy, he left Poland and emigrated to USA. He died in 1977.
