Who was Krushna Chandra Panigrahi?

Krushna Chandra Panigrahi was born in 1909 in a village known as Khiching in the district of Mayurbhanj in Orissa state of India.He grew up in a poor family and lost his parents at an early age.

The village Khiching was the capital of a glorious kingdom ruled by Bhanjdeo dynasty for a long time. Khiching village retains the archaeological remains of the kingdom. Young Krushna Chandra was inspired by the archaeological remains of the kingdom.

Krushna Chandra faced great obstacles in his education. He could start his primary education at the age of 15 only.He was a brilliant student and managed to get scholarships to continue his education.

He completed his B.A in History from Ravenshaw College under Utkal University and M.A & PHD in History & Sanskrit from Calcutta university.

Krushna Chandra Panigrahi was an eminent Archaeologist.He was a research scholar in the archaeological department of Government of India from 1937 to 1944.He also worked in Orissa Museum as an Archaeologist from 1947 to 1951.

He had an eminent career in archaeology in the department of Archaeology, Government of India from 1954 to 1961 as Assistant Superintendent & Superintendent.
