Who was Kurt von der Chevallerie?

Kurt Wilhelm Gustav Erdmann von der Chevallerie was a highly decorated General der Infanterie in the Wehrmacht during World War II who commanded the 1. Armee. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Kurt von der Chevallerie was placed on the Führerreserve on 31 January 1945 and disappeared on 18 April 1945 near Kolberg.

Von der Chevallerie married Dorothea Zander on 18 December 1918 in Berlin. The couple had four children, one son, Hans-Rudolf, and three daughters.
