Who is Liliana Rojas-Suarez?
Liliana Rojas-Suarez is a Peruvian-born economist, specializing in financial regulatory policy and the impact of global capital flows on development, especially in Latin American countries. She is currently a senior fellow at the Center for Global Development and serves as the chair of the Latin-American Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee. She is also the current President of the International Banking, Economics, and Finance Association and a member of the board of trustees of the International Food Policy Research Institute.
Rojas-Suarez received a B.A. from the Catholic University of Peru in 1975, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Ottawa in 1975, and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1984. She has served as the chief economist for Latin America at Deutsche Bank and as principal advisor to the chief economist at the Inter-American Development Bank. She spent a decade working for the International Monetary Fund, where her final position was as Deputy Chief of the Capital Markets and Financial Studies Division. She has also taught at Mexico's Anahuac University, been a visiting fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and worked as an economic advisor to PEMEX, Mexico's state-owned petroleum company.
