Who was Lurleen Wallace?

Lurleen Brigham Burns Wallace, born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was the 46th governor of Alabama from 1967 until her death in 1968. She was the first wife of Alabama Governor George Corley Wallace, whom she succeeded as governor because the Alabama constitution forbid consecutive terms, and governed for 478 days. She was Alabama's first, and to date, only female governor. She was also the only female governor in U.S. history to have died in office. In 1973, she was posthumously inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame.
