Who was Mal Williams?

Mal Williams was an Australian rules footballer who played with University in the Victorian Football League. Abandoning his football career to take up a position as a surgeon at Bendigo Base Hospital, he enlisted during World War I. He was killed while tending to wounded soldiers in 1917.
