Who is Margareta Pâslaru?

Margareta Pâslaru or Pîslaru is a Romanian singer, actress, composer, lyricist, TV producer, and artistic director. The multifaceted artist celebrated 50 years from her 1958 debut, at The Romanian Union of Composers in Bucharest 2008. Married to George Sencovici until his death, they have a daughter, Ana Maria, and a grandson, Luca. The family has lived and worked in the United States since 1983.

As a multi-talented artist, within her lifetime, she had studied piano, ballet, and painting. Albeit sung in Romanian, the style of her reperoire is very similar to the light pop music of the 1960s as well as singers from that era such as Barbra Streisand and Petula Clark. She has collaborated over the years with many first-class musicians, among them Radu Goldiş. She also consented the use of two songs from her repertoire for the 2005 international prize-winning Romanian film The Death of Mr. Lazarescu: "Cum e oare" and "Chemarea marii".

She was a resident of Summit, New Jersey.

She was married to Gheorghe Sencovici, a former Olympic skeet shooter.
