Who is Mercedes Bresso?
Mercedes Bresso is an Italian politician and former President of the Piedmont Region. She is a member of the Democratic Party. After her election as governor of Piedmont, she resigned from the office as Member of European Parliament. She is a Grand Officer of the Italian Republic. She is the first woman to serve as President of Piedmont.
In February 2010, she was elected President of the Committee of the Regions. In July 2012 Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso took over the presidency; Mercedes Bresso then became First Vice-President of the institution for a period of 2.5 years.
On 30 March 2010, she ran for reelection to the office of President of the Piedmont Region, but was defeated by Roberto Cota.
