Who was Murayama Tōan?
Murayama Tōan Antonio was a 17th-century Japanese governor of the city of Nagasaki. He was born in Nagoya from a humble background, and he was a Christian. He played an important role in the handling of "Nanban trade" in Nagasaki with Christian powers, and led an invasion to Taiwan, before being executed for his Christian faith.
