Who was Nathaniel H. Odell?

Nathaniel Holmes Odell was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Greenburgh, near Tarrytown, New York, Odell attended private schools. He engaged in the steamboat business on the North River. He served in the State assembly 1857-1861. He established the First National Bank at Tarrytown and served as cashier from 1862 to 1864.

Odell was elected county treasurer of Westchester County in 1866. He was reelected in 1869 and again in 1872.

Odell was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth Congress. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1876. He engaged in the real estate business. Postmaster of Tarrytown 1887-1892 and 1894-1898. He died in Tarrytown, New York, October 30, 1904. He was interred in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
