Who was Nguyen Phuc Tran?
Nguyen Phuc Tran ruled the southern provinces of Vietnam from 1687 to 1691. Phuc Tran was one of the Nguyễn lords who ruled southern Vietnam from the city of Phú Xuân. During his short rule, a small rebellion by Ming Chinese was put down.
Nguyễn Phúc Trăn was the second son of Nguyễn Phúc Tần. Nguyễn Phúc Trăn took the title Hoang Quốc-Công. With the end of the Trịnh–Nguyễn War, not much of note happened during Trăn's rule. It is reported that he needed to put down an uprising by Chinese immigrants who had settled in Saigon.
On February 7, 1691, Nguyễn Phúc Trăn died and was succeeded by his eldest son, Nguyễn Phúc Chu.
