Who was Paul Vaillant-Couturier?

Paul Vaillant-Couturier was a French author, journalist and politician. He was born and died in Paris.

He studied history and law but very early, in 1912, he began writing. At first poems, which were published in 1913 under the title La Visite du berger.

Paul Vaillant-Couturier began World War I, in 1914, as an infantry non-commissioned officer and was a lieutenant of what was then named the artillerie d'assaut when the war was over.

He was editor in chief of the communist newspaper L'Humanité from April 1926 to September 1929, then again from May 1934 to his sudden death in 1937.
