Who was Percy F. Frankland?

Percy Faraday Frankland CBE FRS was a British chemist.

He was the son of Edward Frankland.

Percy Frankland was Demonstrator and Lecturer in Chemistry at the Royal School of Mines, Professor of Chemistry at University College, Dundee and Professor of Chemistry at Mason College, Birmingham. He applied bacteriology to water analysis and studied the chemical aspects of fermentation. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in June 1891.

In 1882 Frankland married Grace, the daughter of Joseph Toynbee.

Frankland received an honorary doctorate from the University of St Andrews in February 1902. He was awarded a CBE in 1920 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Frankland died in 1946 at Loch Awe in Argyllshire, Scotland.

Some archival material relating to him is held by Archive Services, University of Dundee.
