Who is Perpetual Emotion Machine?

Perpetual Emotion Machine (PEM) is a Canadian artist who resides in Hamilton, Ontario. It was here in the late 1980's that he discovered his love of composing and writing songs. Despite limited technological resources and equipment, his creative ideas were the primary focus and always at the forefront of his mind.

In 1993, adopting the moniker EtherReal, he began writing songs to tangible formats with the aid of tracker software such as Triton's Fast Tracker. Shortly thereafter, he began to release his compositions locally.

By 1996, EtherReal was receiving local attention, and two of his tracks were featured with a bonus collaborative track, on a techno music compilation entitled, Moebius Alpha. Later that year, PEM began an apprenticeship at the Naked Steel Studios located in Hannon, Ontario. It was there that PEM learned and gained experience in higher end recording and engineering principles. He assisted in incoming production contracts including two from BMG Records through Vincent Digiorgio in 1997. One such project is a remix of Good Thing by dance act Masters Of Vision, which was released on BMG/Ariola Records in 1997.

At Naked Steel, PEM continued to hone his craft and work on his own recordings. He also worked with local industrial band, Revenant, as studio assistant engineer, programmer, remixer and keyboardist for their live gigs.

In 2001, after completing four unreleased albums, PEM took time off away from the industry to focus on his newborn daughter and allow himself to recharge his creative batteries. He did, however, find time to host a co-host a radio show at Hamilton's CFMU 93.3 radio station at McMaster University, called Cosmik Repercussions, featuring the best of electronic music of all genres.

By 2005, he had adopted the name Perpetual Emotion Machine, and began working on his current body of work. At the same time, he co-wrote a co-produced a track for Hamilton band OB3LISK called Out Of Time for their debut album. Over the next year and a half, PEM created a cache of new material spanning several albums, EPs and single, and is preparing to release his latest material in the summer of 2009.
