Petar Skansi

Who is Petar Skansi?

Petar Skansi is a former Croatian basketball player and coach. During his playing career he played for Jugoplastika Split and Scavolini Pesaro. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991.

He was member of the Yugoslav national basketball team squad which won silver medal in the 1968 Summer Olympics.

After retiring from playing in 1976 Skansi began coaching and later led Yugoslavia to third place in the 1979 European Championship. After Croatia's independence in 1991 he became the Croatia national basketball team coach and won silver medal with Croatia in the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Between the 1970s and early 2000s he coached a number of Italian teams and his best achievement in club sports was winning the 1992 Italian Championship with Pallacanestro Treviso.

For his achievements he was awarded the Franjo Bučar State Award for Sport twice, in 1992 and 2003.
