Who was Peter Carleton?

Peter Carleton was a United States Representative from New Hampshire. He was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He attended the public schools and engaged in agricultural pursuits. During the American Revolutionary War, he served in a Massachusetts regiment. He moved to Landaff, New Hampshire about 1789.

Carleton was a member of the New Hampshire constitutional convention in 1790. He also was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1803 and 1804 and served in the New Hampshire Senate in 1806 and 1807. He was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Tenth Congress. He died in Landaff in 1828 and was buried in the city cemetery.
