Who is Peter Marcuse?

Peter Marcuse is a German-American lawyer and professor emeritus of urban planning.

Marcuse holds a JD from Yale Law School and a PhD from UC Berkeley in City and Regional Planning. He was a professor of urban planning at UCLA from 1972 until 1975 and at Columbia University from 1975 to 2003. He has written extensively on the right to the city and the Occupy movement.

Marcuse is the son of philosopher and critical theorist Herbert Marcuse. He has three children with his wife Frances Bessler: novelist Irene Marcuse, UC Santa Barbara history professor Harold Marcuse, and Andrew Marcuse.
