Who was Peter Osborne?
Peter Osborne was Keeper of the Privy Purse to King Edward VI
He was born the second son of Richard Osborne of Tyld Hall, Lockingdon, Essex and educated at King's College, Cambridge and Lincoln's Inn, called to the bar and entered official life in July 1551 upon receiving the clerkship of the faculties for life.
In 1551–2 he was Keeper of the Privy Purse to King Edward VI and in 1552 held the office of Remembrancer to the Lord-Treasurer in the Exchequer.
He was occupied in minting in 1560, MP for Tregony in 1559 and for Horsham, Sussex in 1562–3. He was made an ecclesiastical commissioner as early as 1566. He was MP for Guildford in 1571, Plympton, Devon in 1572, Aldeburgh, Suffolk in 1584 and 1586 and Westminster in 1589.
He married Anne, the daughter of Dr John Blythe. His grandson, Sir Peter Osborne, was Royal Governor of Guernsey during the Civil War.
