Who is Pita Sharples?
Pita Russell Sharples CBE, a Māori academic and politician, co-leads the Māori Party. He is the member for Tamaki Makaurau in New Zealand's Parliament. On the 1 July 2013 Sharples told The New Zealand Herald that he would be stepping down from his co-leader role in the Maori Party and he would not be contesting his Tamaki Makaurau elecorate, resigning from politics altogether in 2014.
