Who is Prasanna Vithanage?
Prasanna Vithanage is one of Sri Lanka's most notable filmmakers. His films have won many awards, both local and international.
His 7th and most recent film "Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka" had its world premier in the World Greats section at 39th Montreal International Film Festival. Also written by Prasanna "Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka" is adapted from a novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and set in post war Sri Lanka.
His previous film Akasa Kusum ran for a record 77 days across 24 screens in Sri Lanka. "Aagaya Pookkal" the Tamil dubbed version of the movie "Akasa Kusum" was screened in Jaffna on 1 April 2011. It was the only movie premier of a Sinhala film director to have been held in Jaffna during the past 30 years.
Recently on 30th of March 2013, Vithanage started 'Prasanna Vithanage Academy of Acting' for aspiring acting students in Sri Lanka.
