Who is Rachel Bess?

Rachel Bess is an American artist working out of Phoenix, Arizona. She was represented by Perihelion Gallery but now has been handed over to Lisa Sette Gallery while Perihelion Arts Gallery is on hiatus. Bess is known for her highly realistic, sometimes surrealistic, oil paintings on panel. Her work has drawn comparisons to that of the Dutch Masters, as well as to certain sub-genres of the lowbrow art movement.

Rachel's love of science and mathematics is evident in her work and, not surprisingly, she nearly went for a double major in Anthropology and Art. As it stands, however, Rachel got her BFA in Painting from the Honors College at Arizona State University in 2001.

Currently Bess strains to keep up with the increasing demand for her paintings, as well as helps to organize the Phoenix branch of Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School, and writes/illustrates a comic book titled, "Fighting Death Through Reanimation".
