Who was Ronald Douglas Lawrence?
R.D. Lawrence was a Canadian naturalist and wildlife author. Born aboard ship in the Bay of Biscay off the coast of Spain on September 12, 1921, he moved to Canada in 1954. R.D. Lawrence died of Alzheimer's on November 27, 2003 in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada. R.D. Lawrence Place was built by students in Fleming College's Sustainable Building Program in 2007 at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre, Minden, ON, Canada. The building opened as a literary centre and museum dedicated to R.D. Lawrence on Earth Day, April 22, 2008. R.D. Lawrence Place features a collection of R.D. Lawrence's things and literary estate donated by his widow Sharon Lawrence. She continues to publish new editions of previously published books by R.D. Lawrence.
In 2011, Greg DeLiso directed a documentary about R.D. Lawrence called Canada's Best Kept Secret: The Natural World of R.D. Lawrence.
