Who was René Bauwens?

René Bauwens was a Belgian freestyle swimmer and water polo player who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics.

In 1920 he was part of the Belgian team, which was able to win the silver medal. He was also a member of the Belgian team which was eliminated in the first round of the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay event.

Eight years later he was a member of the Belgian team in the 1928 tournament. He played both matches and scored two goals.
