Who is Robert J. Birgeneau?
Robert Joseph Birgeneau is a Canadian physicist and university administrator. He was the ninth chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley from 2004 to 2013, and the fourteenth president of the University of Toronto from 2000 to 2004. His period as the Berkeley chancellor was among the most controversial in the university's history and was characterized by increasing police violence towards students.
