Who was Rufus Palen?

Rufus Palen was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Palenville, New York, Palen moved with his parents to Fallsburg, where he received a limited schooling. He engaged in the manufacture of leather, and held several local offices.

Palen was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth Congress. He died in New York City April 26, 1844. He was interred in the Old Cemetery, Palenville, New York.
