Who is Rusty Foster?

Lawrence Calvin Foster III, commonly known as Rusty Foster, is the founder of Kuro5hin, and the creator of Scoop, a collaborative media application used by several websites. He is widely known in the weblog community for running a donation drive which netted over US$39,500. However, the Collaborative Media Foundation that Foster promised to set up with the money never materialized, and Kuro5hin.org is hosted for free by sponsors.

Foster later entered the political arena, partnering up with left-wing weblog moguls such as Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga of Daily Kos. Foster served as the CTO of Armstrong Zuniga, a consulting firm formed by ZĂșniga and Jerome Armstrong in 2004, but the firm has since been dissolved. Daily Kos operated on Foster's Scoop software until February 2011, as do many smaller sites.

He has a wife, Christina, a daughter, and a son.

In 2013 Rusty Foster's Facebook account was subject to a 'prank' reporting him dead, drawing the attention of a number of major news outlets.

Later in 2013, Rusty Foster published an article in the New Yorker on the healthcare.gov issue.

Around that time Kuro5hin was subject to a DNS problem.
