Who is Saint Nohra?
Saint Nohra or Mar Nohra was an early Christian saint, still popular in Lebanon today. The saint's name is Aramaic in origin, meaning "Master of Light". He was born in Persia in the third century. He was known for his perspicacity and education, he discarded idolatry, and got deeper in Christian faith. After the death of his parents he became a priest and began expanding Christianity and convincing pagans to convert to Christianity.
During the persecution provoked by the governor on Christians, saint nohra fled to the phoenicians shores like tyre, byblos, batroun, tripoli. There he encouraged Christians to endure the pain and stay faithful.
The governor then asked for him and he ordered him to worship the statues, and after hearing two words from saint nohra mouth " I'm christian" the governor had his head cut off in the end of the third century in " samar jubayl"
