Who was Samuel Sheinbein?
Samuel Sheinbein was an American-Israeli convicted murderer. On 16 September 1997, Sheinbein and a former classmate, Aaron Benjamin Needle, at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, killed Freddy Tello, then dismembered and burned the corpse in Aspen Hill, Maryland.
Sheinbein fled to Israel, where he was eligible for citizenship and Israeli law prohibited extraditing an Israeli national. Sheinbein, whose case strained US-Israeli relations, was sentenced to 24 years in prison by an Israeli court. His case prompted an overhaul of Israeli extradition law. In 2014, he was killed by police in a prison standoff, after he shot six officials and another prisoner.
