Who is Sławomir Cenckiewicz?

Sławomir Cenckiewicz is a Polish historian and journalist. A former employee of the Institute of National Remembrance, he is currently the main historical consultant of the Wprost weekly. He gained much media attention following the 2008 by scientific publication - book "SB a Lech Wałęsa. Przyczynek do biografii", about Lech Wałęsa as an informant of the communist Służba Bezpieczeństwa. In their work dr Gontarczyk and dr Cenckiewicz give proof that in the 1970s the NSZZ Solidarność leader and former President of Poland Lech Wałęsa was a secret informant of the Polish communist secret police - Służba Bezpieczeństwa.

He graduated from the Historical Faculty of the Uniwersytet Gdański. His main fields of expertise are modern history of Poland, including the opposition in the communist Poland and the phenomenon of Polonia. He is habilitated doctor of history by the Uniwersytet Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie.

Since 2008 he is persecuted for freedom of scientific research.

Among the scholarships he took part in are London-based Polonia Aid Foundation Trust, Kościuszko Foundation and Chicago-based Foundation for Free Speech.
