Who is Steven Sebring?
Steven Sebring is a New York City-based photographer, filmmaker and multimedia artist. He has contributed images to magazines such as Vanity Fair, W, L’uomo Vogue, GQ and Elle, shot international campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Maybelline, DKNY and Coach, and directed the Sundance Film Festival award-winning film Patti Smith: Dream of Life.
Sebring was born in South Dakota and grew up in Arizona. He moved to New York in 1992 to pursue a career as a photographer and artist.
In 1997, Sebring began an 11-year collaboration with Patti Smith, a documentary feature titled Patti Smith: Dream of Life. The film won the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Excellence In Cinematography Award: Documentary and received a 2010 Primetime Emmy nomination. Sebring’s collaboration with Patti Smith also yielded a book of the same name and an art installation, Objects of Life, which was exhibited at New York’s Robert Miller Gallery from January 6 to February 13 of 2010.
