Thomas G. Nelson

Who was Thomas G. Nelson?

Thomas G. Nelson was a United States federal judge.

Nelson was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He received an LL.B. from University of Idaho College of Law in 1962. He served as Assistant state attorney general and chief deputy state attorney general of Idaho Office of the State Attorney General, from 1963 to 1965. He was in the United States Army Reserve from 1965 to 1968 and was in private practice of law in Twin Falls, Idaho from 1965 to 1990.

Nelson was a federal judge to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Nelson was nominated by President George H. W. Bush on July 18, 1990, to a seat vacated by J. Blaine Anderson. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 12, 1990, and received his commission on October 17, 1990. He assumed senior status on November 14, 2003. He remained on the court as a senior judge until December 2009, when he retired from hearing cases. He died May 4, 2011.
