Who was Thomas Kennedy Laidlaw?
Tom Laidlaw was born in Scotland but spent most of his life in Ireland where, with his exceptional eye for potential steeplechasers, he enjoyed success over jumps, his Fly Mask being runner-up in two Grand Nationals. He was the breeder of the fortunate Derby winner Aboyeur which he sold as a foal, and he owned the Irish St Leger winner Kirk Alloway and Spy Ann, winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas. Another of Tom Laidlaw's interests was the sea and he was a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron. Tom Liadlaw was elected to the Jockey Club in 1924.
