Who is Toby Ann Stavisky?

Toby Ann Stavisky represents the 16th district in the New York State Senate which comprises the Queens neighborhoods of Bay Terrace, Bayside, Beechhurst, Clearview Gardens, Flushing, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Hillcrest, Elmhurst, Electchester, Pomonok, Queensboro Hill, Whitestone, Woodside, Mitchell Linden, Fresh Meadows, and Oakland Gardens.

Stavisky was born and raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side. She attended public schools and graduated from Bronx High School of Science and ultimately Syracuse University. Stavisky attended graduate school at Hunter College and Queens College. After working for an insurance company in the actuarial department, Stavisky was a Social Studies teacher in New York City, and served as a district manager in Queens for the Census. She was elected to the New York State Senate on November 2, 1999 with over 92% of the vote, and has been re-elected seven times.

Stavisky was married to Dr. Leonard Price Stavisky, a former member of the New York State Assembly and the State Senate, from 1964 until his death in 1999. She resides in Whitestone and has one son, Evan.
