Who was Tom Hurd?

Thomas Carr Hurd [Whitey] was a middle-relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1954 through 1956 for the Boston Red Sox. Listed at 5 ft 9 in, 155 lb., Hurd batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Danville, Virginia.

In a three-season career, Hurd posted a 13–10 record with a 3.96 ERA and 11 saves in 99 appearances, including 96 strikeouts and 186.1 innings of work.

Hurd was married to Peggy Ann Wilson until his death. Together they had 5 children: Sharae, Suzette, Severeign, Thomas, and Sheila. Hurd died in Waterloo, Iowa at age 58.
