Who is Tony F. Chan?

Tony Fan-Cheong Chan is a Hong Kong-born mathematician and President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1 September 2009.

He succeeded Chu Ching-wu who retired from HKUST in August 2009.

Tony Chan worked at UCLA and at the National Science Foundation. He is a co-founder of the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, an NSF-funded institute at UCLA. He has been listed as an ISI Highly Cited Author in Mathematics by the ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Scientific Company. He also sits on the selection committee for the Mathematics award, given under the auspices of the Shaw Prize.
