Who is Tyler Shipley?

Tyler Shipley is a songwriter, musician and political activist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is best known for a political pop band called The Consumer Goods who have released four records since 2005, toured across Canada and received critical acclaim in North America and Europe. In 2007, the band was nominated for two awards, including one of CBC's annual listener-selected "Bucky Awards." As The Consumer Goods grew into a regular fixture in the Canadian indie scene, he joined three other musician friends in forming Grumpy Cloud Records, a record label based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He currently lives in Toronto, Ontario where he is a published academic writing on the global financial crisis, labour and social movements, the politics of professional sport, and Canadian support for the 2009 military coup in Honduras. He is also a notable political activist in the CUPE 3903 union at York University, for whom he acted as spokesperson during their three-month strike in 2009.
